Greetings
That's Me Too!
Have students stand in a circle,
Go around and each students shares something about themselves,
If other students agree, they step into the circle, or run to the middle and exclaim, "That's me too!"
Hit the Floor!
"1-2-3-4 come on, _______, and hit the floor! We're so glad you're here today. Hooray hooray hooray!"
Students do a dance move when their name is called before they call out the next person.
Snowball Fight
Have students write their name on a piece of paper and then crumble it up.
Divide the class in half with a clear middle line dividing the two teams.
Students will toss their crumbled papers until the teacher says stop.
Each student should have a paper with someone else's name on it.
Each student greets the person who's name is on their paper and finds their seat after they have greeted and have been greeted.
Shoe Twister
Students stand in circle and link arms or hold hands. Each student takes a shoe or both off and throws it into the middle of the circle. Students then have to get their shoe and put it back on while staying attached to one another.
Five Up, Five Down
"Five up high" (students give each other high five)
"Five down low" (students give each other a "low" five)
"You're a friend I'm glad to know!" (students give each other thumbs up)
2-4-6-8 Greeting
Students stand in two lines, holding out their hand for others to high five.
Students runs through the middle high fiving everyone as other students cheer, "2-4-6-8 Who do we appreciate? Student!, Student!, Go Student!"
"Hullaballo"
Write different ways to move, different ways to greet each other, and different topics to talk about on the board.
Have students get up and call out a way to move.
Then pick a greeting, and students will perform that greeting to the student nearest them.
Give students a topic to quickly chat about.
Repeat until all ways to move, greet, and chat have been used.
Monday/ Friday Greeting
"Hello ________"
"The weekend was/is near!"
"What did you do when it was here?"
Response: "I ______. Hello _______"
(person who was before you)
Let's Rumba!
You do the rumba (any dance move of your choosing).
Student next to you, "This isn't how you do the rumba, ____, (students name from before), this is how you do the rumba" Student does dance move of their choosing.
Echo Greeting
Write a list of silly voices on the board.
Have students stand in circle.
Go around one by one.
Students will pick a silly voice to introduce themselves in.
The rest of the class will respond back in the same silly voice greeting as their classmate.
Seesaw Greeting
Students shake each others hands in seesaw motion while greeting each other.
Have students up and moving around the room so they are able to greet multiple classmates.
Mingle Mingle
Make notecards with different questions on them
Play music
Have students walk around while music is playing
When the music stops have students ask their question to the student they are closest too and then switch
High- Low Greeting
Have an arrow with high and low written on it.
If the arrow is point up the student greets their classmate to the left of them with a high voice.
If the arrow is pointing down the students greets their classmate to the left with a low voice.
Friendship Soup
Pairs create a laddle with their hands and pretend to stir soup while they chat about something of the teacher's choosing.
